James T. Haney, PE, CBI
Jim Haney, a registered Professional Engineer (TX) and a Certified Business Intermediary (CBI), has a forty year professional career involved in different types of operations such as pharmaceutical manufacturing, real estate development, electronic assembly, general manufacturing, environmental health & safety, geotechnical engineering services, mine reclamation and closure, and design, construction and startup of an iron ore direct reduction plant in Acindar, Argentina, among others. He has provided corporate leadership in the positions of Owner, Member of the Board of Directors, CEO, President, Executive Vice President and Executive Director. Jim has been successful in the startup, turnaround, and growth of more than twenty firms, both public and private, ranging in size from several million to in excess of $3.0 billion in annual revenues.
Jim brings a unique and distinguished career to Chapman Associates in senior and C-Level positions for such high profile national and international firms as Lockwood Greene Engineers, Inc.(now CH2M-Hill), John Brown Engineers (now Kvaerner Energy), Midrex Corporation, Transwestern Property Company, Lend Lease Construction, Maxim Technologies, Inc. and TetraTech, Inc. He has been successful developing business strategies to maximize enterprise value, as shown by executing operational turnarounds and designing sales and marketing organizations to steer companies toward growth. Jim has particular expertise in M&A, leading or participating in 25+ acquisitions and divestitures resulting in significantly strengthened company performance.
In 1992, Jim took over as CEO of a small; nearly bankrupt, eighty employee geotechnical engineering/construction materials testing company, Maxim Engineers, Inc. By 1995 Jim had reorganized and rebuilt the company and, using it as a platform, through acquisitions, divestitures and organic growth built Maxim Technologies, Inc. into the 84th largest engineering company on the 1998 ENR Top 500 list of U.S. engineering companies. The company was ultimately sold to Tetra Tech, Inc. (NASDAQ:TTEK) in 2001.
Mr. Haney has frequently made presentations to corporate boards, professional organizations and corporate meetings on the subjects of the M&A process, preparing for ownership transition, and the role of management, marketing and leadership in the transition process.
Mr. Haney is a graduate of Clemson University with Honors where he received a BS in Chemical Engineering under a USAF Scholarship, and a MS in Chemical Engineering & Air Pollution Control under a Public Health Services Fellowship. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas, a member of the Executive Connections and CEO Forum (both C-level professional organizations), Sertoma International, National Society of Professional Engineers, Texas Society of Professional Engineers, and International Business Brokers Association. He served four years as a Captain in the United States Air Force, BioMedical Sciences Corp as a BioEnvironmental Engineer.
